The Gateway Art & Design qualifications are intended to provide learners with a broad introduction to the art and design sector, equipping learners with underpinning knowledge and skills specific to the sector alongside a range of transferable employability skills. They are designed to support progression to further learning and ultimately to work in art and design or other related sectors.

Students will work towards a portfolio of work which cover key subjects such as using craft skills, using a variety of medias to produce work, colour, tone, drawing skills, size and scale. They will also look at various roles within the Art & Design industry and using the experience of all tutors and support staff students will undertake projects that involve, graphic design, photography, illustration and other traditional methods of Art & Design

Depending upon the level, units taught consist of:

  • Working in Art and Design
  • Creative Craft Skills
  • Digital Photography
  • Print Making
  • A Personal Project
  • Produce Craft Work
  • Introduction to Mixed Media in 2D
  • Explore Mixed Media
Students will study towards the following qualifications based on their ability:
  • Gateway Entry Level Award in Skills for Art and Design
  • Gateway Entry Level Certificate in Skills for Art and Design
  • Gateway Level 1 Award in Skills for Art and Design
  • Gateway Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Art and Design
  • Gateway Level 1 Diploma in Skills for Art and Design
  • Gateway Level 2 in Skills for Art and Design
